Ekornes was founded in 1934 in Norway as a mattress manufacturer. In 1966 Ekornes launched its first collection of lounge furniture, becoming the first furniture manufacturer in Norway. Five years later, the stressless chair hit the Norwegian market.

Extremely successful, the stressless line leads to a major expansion and automation of steel production. And it paved the way for the future and popularity of reclining chairs.

This is an early original of the stressless line. Soft tufted brown leather covers the seat and ottoman. The chair and ottoman sit on round chrome finished bases with double arch support. Chair swivels and reclines. Leather on armrests warn in places. Tension knobs on either side help hold recline, one of which is broken.
